I’m working on this week’s reviews so I have nothing witty (is there ever?) or timely (I hate most comic news) but as I’m working, I’m listening to the podcast Inkstuds and their “Best of 2008″ episode. Here’s their description of the episode:
Today i was joined by three stellar comics critics to discuss some of what 2008 had to offer. Tom Spurgeon, Paul Gravett and Douglas Wolk all had some great stuff to say about a fine selection of books.
Click here to go listen to smart people talk about Omega, Art Spiegelman, Black Jack and other great topics looking back at last year.

No Wednesday’s Haul podcast this week but instead I joined up with the roundtable of Chris Neseman, John Suintres and Chris Burnham on ep 216 of Around Comics. Here’s the description from the AC website:
The end of the holidays are finally here and Around Comics ushers in the new year with an all new panel. Join Chris as he welcomes Wordballoon’s John Siuntres, Scott Cederlund from Wednesday’s Haul and artist extrordinair Chris Burnham. It’s a good old fashioned geekfest as the panel discusses a wide range of comics culture topics and what they are looking forward to in 2009.
This was recorded over a week ago so I don’t remember everything that was talked about. I know I got about 30 seconds to talk up some Solanin and since it’s a Neseman-ran show, there’s some Greg Rucka love in there somewhere.

After seeing Kevin Smith’s new movie ZACH & MIRI MAKE A PORNO, View From the Cheap Seats returns by locking ourselves in Brad’s van for an hour and this is what happened.
In advance, we apologize for actually recording this and putting it on the internet. Stuff that was said and done in that van is probably better off forgotten.

This week, I joined Brad at Replay Factor to talk about mixtapes. Here’s the description from Brad’s site:
We’ve all done it, right? You just had to express your feelings in song. Maybe it was for a girl (or guy) or a friend or yourself, but you had something to say and since you’re not a gifted singer/songwriter or life’s not one giant musical, you sat in front of the stereo for hours and crafted the mix tape, the soundtrack for your feelings at the time.
In the digital age, is the concept of the mix tape still practiced or even relevant? I sit down with Wednesday’s Haul podcast host Scott Cederlund to discuss.
You can download and listen to the podcast here.
And hopefully if things work out right, there may be a new Wednesday’s Haul and maybe even a new View From the Cheap Seats podcast this week.

Bob and John over at the Comic Book Page podcast kindly invited me to join in on the fun for their monthly Previews Spotlight episode. For my first time out, I talked about Scott Morse’s upcoming Notes Over Yonder from Ad House books. If you click on the Ad House link, you can download a 10 page preview of stunning art from the book. (BTW, does the art look familiar to anyone else? I’m wondering if some of this story has appeared in Image’s Afterworks II anthology from a year or two ago.)
