Nexus Archives Vol 9 HC– Three Dark Horse books that demonstrate how far behind I am on some nice archive series and good anthologies. At this point, it would only cost over $200 to catch up on all three of these series. Glah, I hate falling behind. After having just read the recent conclusion to Nexus, I’ve got a hankering to read the entire story of Horatio Hellpop from beginning to end.
Blackest Night Tales Of The Corps #2 (dcbs)
Green Lantern Vol 4 #44 (dcbs)- Oh, Blackest Night, how you already continue to chug along and churn out tie ins. I’m actually pulling for this story, wanting it to be as good a superhero story as The Sinestro Corp War was but I fear the DC machine that’s behind this title, cranking out the mini series and crossovers.
Final Crisis Legion Of Three Worlds #5 (lcs)-Does this mean I can finally read the end of Final Crisis?
Final Crisis Rogues Revenge HC- You know, this may be one of the strongest things that Geoff Johns has written in years, bringing some good crime stories to the Flash family. The combination of Johns’ more focused writing and Scott Kolins’ dark and kinetic artwork made this the best Final Crisis spinoff.
Wednesday Comics #3 (dcbs)- Well, this isn’t a good sign. Two issues in and I’m already kind of tired of this project already. It’s one of the best looking comics of the year but that’s only half of the equation. At best, the stories are good (Kamandi & Adam Strange) but most of them are vanilla and unforgettable (Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, Metamorpho) and at worst, laughable (Batman & Superman.) I’m committed to seeing this one through at this point but I’m already down to just skimming the second issue. I wonder what my attention span on this will be by the 6th or 7th issue.
Richard Starks Parker The Hunter HC (dcbs)- I may be one of the few people who enjoy Selina’s Big Score more than Cooke’s The New Frontier. His style and sentiments play better in the shadows of noir than they did in the light of the new age of heroes.
Phonogram 2 Singles Club #4 (lcs)- I always look forward to this book to see how Keiron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie make me rethink almost everything. I hope that someway or another that Gillen and McKelvie can keep on doing this book for a long, long time.
New Avengers Vol 10 Power HC (dcbs)- I’m putting a lot of responsibility on this collection because it will determine whether I keep getting Bendis’s Avenger titles in any way, shape or form. After a long-growing dissatisfaction in the regular issues, I finally made the jump to the collections only after Secret Invasion but the problem is that I’m not in the least bit excited about getting this. I haven’t pre ordered any other Avengers collections so this title may finally be coming off of my list.
Disney Pixars Incredibles Family Matters #4 (lcs)
Disney Pixars World Of Cars The Rookie #4 (lcs)- I’ve been reading these with my son. Even for him, the Cars series is fairly forgettable. It lacks the charm of Radiator Springs I think and is too much immersed in the Nascar and racing world. But The Incredibles may be one of the strongest releases out of the Disney/Boom partnership as Waid is writing a story that plays well to the strengths of the property.
Mouse Guard Vol 2 Winter 1152 HC (dcbs)- Honestly, I gave up reading the regular comic after the first issue. I wonder if this second collection will be able to live up to the promise or hype of the first one. Do the characters and their world come to life once again? I want to read both V1 & V2 together.
Children Of The Sea Vol 1 GN
Oishinbo A La Carte Vol 4 Fish Sushi And Sashimi TP (dcbs)
Real Vol 5 GN (dcbs)
Vagabond VIZBIG Edition Vol 4 TP- That’s a lot of manga. And other lists I’ve seen include the latest volume of Pluto as well. I wasn’t too sure about Children of the Sea but it’s getting a lot of great reviews so I need to check it out. I’ve got to catch up on Oishinbo and Vagabon. If Real keeps up the emotion and energy of the 3rd and 4th volume, it may just be my favorite book of the year.
