Weekly Comic Shopping List 6/17/07

By Scott Cederlund in comics
  • Starman Omnibus Vol 3 HC (future Amazon)– This is a series that easily deserves the deluxe treatment and I’m glad to have the first two of these.  I’ll need to order this one though I think that this book may feature some of the run up to Stars My Destination that aren’t the strongest in the run.  Also, I guess this includes the Shade mini that I honestly don’t remember a thing about.
  • WastelandV4Elephantmen #20 (lcs)– Marian Churchland’s artwork is such a difference from almost everything else that’s been in this series.  You go from Ladronn’s Moebius/Kirby style to Churchland’s soft Paul Pope-ish style all in the span of 20+ issues but Starkings manages to make each and every story work for his different artists, whether it’s Churchland or Ladroon or Moritat or Boo Cook or Chris Burnham.
  • Phonogram 2 Singles Club #3 (lcs)–  I reviewed every issue of the first mini and the first issue of the second but do I get an advance copy of this to review for you?  No, I don’t.  I have to wait until I can actually buy the book before I can review it.  But it is very good and this mini is better than the first.  I just can’t stay mad at those guys for long.
  • Incognito #4 (lcs)–  I’ve enjoyed this series but I’m ready to get back to more Criminal.  This series feels like a step back to me, reminding me too much of the excellent Sleeper.  It may just be my expectations but I’ve been enjoying what Brubaker and Phillips have been doing outside of superhero comics and this is just a superhero comic.  A good one superhero comic but still, it doesn’t feel like that much of a stretch for them.
  • Wasteland Book 4 Dog Tribe TP (dcbs)–  Over the next two weeks, I’ve got to read this series from beginning to this point and I’m looking forward to that.
  • Wonton Soup Vol 2 GN (dcbs)–  I’ve got the first volume of this and don’t remember much other than it was kind of crazy.  I really dig Brandon Graham’s James Stokoe’s artwork but will need to reread the first part before getting to this one.
  • Naoki Urasawas 20th Century Boys Vol 3 TP (dcbs)– Perfection.  That’s the only way to describe Urasawa’s 20th Century Boys.
