On Diamond’s latest list of cancellations, Fell #10 was listed and I guess it’s only fitting since the book was solicited in mid-2007. Over on the Millarworld boards (which I do still check out weekly particularly for the Product/Shipping Update thread,) there was some discussion about the cancellation of the issue, comparing what’s going on there with a Ellis’s long-delayed Planetary and speculation that Fell wasn’t making the creators or Image any money. Eventually Ben Templesmith himself shows up to shed some light on the status of Fell:
We only make money on Fell when we do an issue and it sells enough copies basically. ( We were awesomely fortunate enough that people bought enough copies ) I wouldn’t trade that in for being paid by someone else to do Fell and “funding” has never been an issue, at least not for me. I’ll happily work on Fell whenever Warren finds the time for script. Anything else I work on ( and I am a little busy right now doing 1.5 books a month or so ) is not in place of Fell, which was always something I did in my spare time and still hope to do so at some point in the future…whenever that is depends on dear old Internet Jesus, and I can’t speak for Warren but he did answer a firm “NO” on twitter the other day when asked for the millionth time “if Fell was cancelled” so there you go.
Along with the cancellation of Fell, Ellis’s New Universal has been cancelled and will be resolicited later. Various sources seem to quote Ellis about issues of computer and hard drive crashes which Ellis has been very public about on his mailing list and forums. Yesterday’s Lying in the Gutters highlighted the following exchange between Ellis and Rich Johnson:
I asked Warren “what up?” and after being deservedly bitchslapped he told me that last year, both his computer and back ups were destroyed, forcing him to priorotise (sic) which scripts could be reconstructed.
Expect it back at a later date. There are plenty of pages in hand for when the budget is there again.
New Universal artist Steven Kurth has already been assigned a new Marvel book according to the latest solicitations so it looks like New Universal may see another new artist whenever it shows up again.
