"WYOMING — Studio 28, West Michigan's first multiplex cinema and at one point America's largest, is closing its doors after 43 years.
"Loeks Theatres Inc. was expected to make the announcement at a press conference today.
"No details were provided beforehand, but the head of Wyoming's Downtown Development Authority confirmed this morning the local landmark is shutting down.
""They are going to close it. I don't know exactly when," DDA chairman Douglas Kochneff said. "Unfortunately, and maybe fortunately, it's more of an emotional issue than an economic issue (for the city).""
Back in my college days, Studio 28 was one of the places we went to a lot. I know I saw U2's Rattle & Hum, Pink Floyd's The Wall and the Blade Runner Special Edition there. I'll miss Studio 28.
