Dead Ahead has one strong selling point for me– Alex Nino. The Filipino artist has for long time been a source of mystery and fascination to me. I’ve always had a handful of comics that he’s illustrated as well as a Philip Jose Farmer novel that Nino provided illustrations for. I honestly probably haven’t really looked at enough Nino to say why I like his work but everything is wonderfully organic in his work. It all looks like it’s living and breathing. Even the page itself feels strangely alive.
Also out this week (or at least in my DCBS order this week) is Essex County V3: Country Nurse. Last year’s V2 Ghost Stories was one of the best books of the year and I have extremely high hopes for Country Nurse.
Also out this week are:
- Ambush Bug Year None #3– It’s been a fun romp so far– nothing major but a pleasant diversion.
- 100 Bullets Vol 12 Dirty TP– I just read the last 3 or 4 trades a couple of weeks ago and can’t wait to get what should be the lead up to the end.
- Secret Invasion Amazing Spider-Man #2
- Zorro Vol 6 #7 Matt Wagner Cover– I hate to say it but I haven’t been feeling this title. It’s o.k. but I should be a lot more excited about the creators than I am. Other than Sandman Mystery Theater, I haven’t been able to get into a lot of Wagner’s corporate owned titles.
- Wasteland (Oni Press) #20
- Black Summer TP
- Tezukas Black Jack Vol 1 HC Previews Exclusive Edition
- ABE SAPIEN TP VOL 01 THE DROWNING
