Wow, this is a heavy mainstream week, mired in crossover epics.
- Ambush Bug Year None #2– Ambush Bug, Keith Giffen, Robert Loren Fleming. Hopefully there will be a Thriller reference thrown into this issue.
- DC Universe Last Will And Testament #1 — High melodrama written with painstaking detail. At least that’s what I expect out of this Brad Meltzer comic. The first few pages are showing up on some websites and it looks very heavy and thick. Meltzer’s writing can either be incomprehensible (see most of his Justice League) or syrupy thick and sentimental (see Identity Crisis.)
- Final Crisis Rogues Revenge #2–The first issue was good in a Dirty Dozen kind of way. The Rogues aren’t the good guys but Johns made them the characters you’re pulling for. Where a lot of Johns’s writing is starting to have a very “paint by numbers” feel to me, his work on Flash and now on Rogue’s Revenge feels like it’s more Johns than anyone else.
- Final Crisis Superman Beyond #1– I wonder if this should just be titles “Final Crisis 3.5?” since it’s picking up on stuff from the last issue. I never really cared for Doug Mahnke’s artwork before a few years ago but he’s an artist I really look forward to right now.
- Justice Society Of America Vol 3 #18– It’s been fun lately. Hopefully this issue continues that trend.
- All Star Superman V1 TPB– Seriously debating picking this one up for my son. He’s always looking through the FCBD copy of #1. I’m starting to think this book may be the perfect example of an all-ages superhero book.
- Mighty Avengers #17– SKRULLS!!!!!!
- New Avengers #44– SKRULLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- newuniversal Conqueror–The previous one shot has been one of my favorite issues of the year so far so let’s see how this one goes.
