Final Crisis Rogues Revenge #1– You know, I’d take Geoff Johns’ Flash over Mark Waid’s any day. Waid’s was good but he stayed on stage way too long and his run hasn’t really been one I’ve felt the need to revisit over the years. Johns’ run, on the other hand, is one I’ve reread a couple of times and have really enjoyed. Scott Kolins’s art hasn’t been as strong in my opinion since he left The Flash so I’m hoping he brings back the more open, thin line style he used there.
- Superman And The Legion Of Super-Heroes HC– I really, really enjoyed this story of Superman rediscovering his childhood friends.
- Charlatan Ball #2– If GODLAND is Joe Casey trying to rewrite the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby Fantastic Four, Charlatan Ball is him trying to rewrite Kirby’s 70′s DC output, particularly Mister Miracle.
- Elephantmen War Toys Vol 1 No Surrender TP– I’ve probably said it before but I enjoy the way that Starkings, Moritat, Ladronn and everyone else involved is slowly building up the world of the Elephantmen. War Toys shows the Elephantmen as the weapons that they were intended to be but also shows the beginnings of their own development into individuals.
- Mighty Avengers #16 (Secret Invasion Tie-In)– I’ve gotten to like how Bendis is slowly filling in the puzzle pieces that began back in New Avengers #1.
- Sky Doll #3– Waiting to read the entire series.
- Universal War One #1– From the artwork and the sound of the story, this was the Soliel book that I’ve been waiting for.
- Zorro Vol 6 #5 Matt Wagner Cover– I just started rereading Sandman Mystery Theatre and I don’t think that Wagner gets enough credit as a writer.
- ZOT TP VOL 01 COMP BLACK & WHITE STORIES 1987 TO 1991– Easily the book I’ve been waiting for the most this year (even if I put different on Spurgeon’s last 5 for Friday.) I’ve got almost a complete run of Zot! but I’ve never quite finished it, hoping and praying for either a continuation of the late Kitchen Sink’s volumes or something like this– a brand new complete reprinting of everything. This is one of those series from the 80′s that probably just doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.
- Comics Journal #291– Tim Sale interview and artwork. For my money, The Comics Journal is still the best comic magazine out there.
