Weekly Comic Shopping List 6/18/08

By Scott Cederlund in Previews, comics

It’s a heavy collection week and I don’t know what I can wait on, probably the Conan book but I know I’ve got to buy Sinestro Corps V2 and Y V10 this week. I may even have to pick up the Star Wars book. I was hoping to be able to wait until Wizard World Chicago to buy things but I may just prove to be a weak man at the LCS on Wednesday.

  • Grendel Behold The Devil #8– It’s been great getting another Hunter Rose story, one that firmly links Hunter Rose as part of the whole Grendel continuum. Wagner’s plotting has been tight on this series and I think it will end just as bloody as it began.
  • Conan Vol 0 Born On The Battlefield SC– I’ve got a lot of catching up to do on Dark Horse’s Conan but this story was supposed to be fantastic, giving the birth and origin of everyone’s favorite warrior.
  • Star Wars Legacy Vol 3 TP– I’m loving this series as Ostrander continues to mold a Star Wars tale around the type of grim’n'gritty characters that he does oh so well.
  • DC Wildstorm Dreamwar #3– Didn’t get #2 but if this issue looks any good, I’ll probably pick both issues up.
  • Green Lantern The Sinestro Corps War Vol 2 HC– I go on a small vacation in two weeks and right now I’m planning that the Sinestro Corps storyline will be my vacation reading.
  • Y The Last Man Vol 10 Whys And Wherefores TP– I know a bit how this ends but not a lot, managing to avoid a lot of the spoilers. I’ll probably write more about this next week because I like the story but don’t have quite the connection to it that a lot of people have.
  • Rasl #2– Finally. I want to see where Smith is going with this. This story may establish him as one of the most unique and individual creators in American comics. Bone was fantastic but I kind of wonder if Smith may turn out to be a one hit wonder. Somehow I doubt it.
  • Zorro Vol 6 #4 Matt Wagner Cover– I don’t think I ever read the 3rd issue.
  • Pocket Full Of Rain SC– More anthropomorphic animals doing weird things? I’m there.
  • Atomic Robo Vol 1 TP– I’ve hard really good things about this series so I’m eager to get and check this out. The FCBD sample was a nice intro to the character but I got a Hellboy vibe off of the whole thing.
  • Naoki Urasawas Monster Vol 15 TP– This and the last 2 volumes will probably round out my vacation reading along with GL.

I keep hearing that Atomic Robo is very Hellboy-ish, but since I have never read Hellboy I can’t make that determination. All I know is, Atomic Robo is a fun comic book. I hope you like it.

  2. Scott Cederlund says:

The only thing I’ve read is the FCBD book but I think it’s the supernatural being hunting down other supernatural being while working for some kind of agency thing that puts me in the mind of Hellboy.

    Never read Hellboy? Really?

  3. Derek Coward says:

Nope, Hellboy’s on a list with Cerebrus and Strangers In Paradise of books that everyone says I should read but for some reason I have no compulsion to read.
