Perusing the usual forums this morning, I was surprised to happen along this topic at the CGS boards about a robbery and shooting at a robbery and shooting at Apparition Comics in Grand Rapids, MI. Appartitions opened in the early 90s just up the road from where I went to college. I can’t remember if I still lived on campus or had moved closer to the downtown GR area when it opened but Apparitions became one of my main shops in GR, along with Argos and Tardys. It was the owner of Apparitions who convinced me to try Bone. That’s one thing I really remember about the shop. It wasn’t too long after they opened that I graduated and moved away from Grand Rapids.
A few years ago, my in-laws moved back to the Grand Rapids area and since then, I’ve usually hit Apparations once every month or two. Most of the reports are saying that it was an employee that was shot. As far as I know, I only ever saw two people in the store, the owner and an employee. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim, his family and friends.
Here’s the story from a local TV station.
Oddly enough, this is the second comic shop that I occasionally shop at that has had a shooting at in in the last 2 years.
Now, THAT’S scary! Hey listen, if you ever make it down to San Antonio be sure to let me know. I’ll want to warn the guys at the comic book shop I patronize.
As long as my regular comic guys don’t get nervous (or shot,) I’ll just take it as coincidence and not a sign that I should permanently switch to mail order.
Hi,
We’re writing about the shooting and I’m just looking for some info about the store. Can you shoot me an e-mail or call? 222-5496
Thanks!
