So my time of going cold turkey pre-ordering from DCBService lasted one whole month. A month or so ago I wrote about how I was chucking the monthly ordering from them and going to begin relying more on Amazon and DCBS’s sister site InStock Trades. But something funny happened between then and now– a big book I ordered got cancelled (stupid Dynamite Entertainment!) and I ended up with a $30+ credit that I needed to use on DCBS.
The other funny thing was seeing other internet buddies and acquaintances lately talking about switching to DCBS or regularly recounting their latest boxes from DCBS and I’ve been thinking some more. You know, getting that bi-weekly box is kind of cool and I’d probably save more by going over to DCBS than I do at my LCS but I’m not ready to make that switch yet. But since I had the credit and needed to order something, I placed my DCBS order today for books shipping in May. I mostly stuck to books that were getting only a 50% discount on through one or two 40% discounted books ended up on the list. If nothing else, I’m glad that there wasn’t too much from independent and alternative publishers coming out in May that I really wanted.
Umbrella Academy Apocalypse Suite TPB– I enjoyed the mini greatly and look forward to reading this book many times over the coming years.
Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes HC– I think this is a story that I’ve liked a lot better than I’ve really let on. It’s a good Legion story but I do want to see where Johns is going with this version of the Legion. If nothing else, it’s a lot better than Jim Shooter’s Legion story.
Suburban Glamour V1– It’s only $4.99 with the discount so how can you pass up some fantastic Jamie McKelvie artwork? You can’t!
Soleil Sky Doll #1– I’ll give it a shot.
Guardians of the Galaxy #1– I’ll give it a shot- part 2. I like the concept and I love the characters. This will probably be a wait-for-the-collection book but I’ll give the first issue a chance to impress me.
Mighty Avengers #13 & 14– I think I may end up getting this series while it crosses over with Secret Invasion.
Modern Masters V17 Lee Weeks– I’ve always liked Lee Weeks artwork but I’m surprised to see him getting a Modern Masters title. Part of me wonders if they see something that I don’t in his artwork while the other part of me wonders if they’ve already run out of suitable artists. Either way, I’m glad to see a solid adventure artist like Weeks get his moment inthe sun.
