The big release of this week aren’t the comics but the New Frontier DVD. The early reviews seem to to digging the movie. All I know is that it has to be better than the Superman DVD released last year.
- Savage Sword Of Conan Vol 2 TP– On the list of “may pick up.” I’ve been in a 70′s black’n'white art mood for the last 6 months or so and the first volume contains some great linework. I’m still not too sure if I’m enough of a Conan fan to pick up all of these but I’m enough of an art fan that I’ll give it a look. I really wish the upcoming Eerie and Creepy collections were more in this format.
- Action Comics #862 – Well, I’ve determined that I’m enjoying this storyline because of the Legion and not because of Superman or Geoff Johns. So when this story is over, I’m gone from getting this title. And I guess I’ll be waiting for the rumored Johns/Perez Legion story.
- All Star Batman And Robin The Boy Wonder #9– I love this title. It’s so wrong and horrible that it’s fantastic.
- Justice Society Of America Vol 3 #13 — Please, please, please do something soon to impress me with this title. I want to like it, really I do. How can people prefere the mundanity that’s been passing along as a plot in this book and yet despise Miller’s madness on All Star Batman? One book has character. The other one has blandness.
- Legion Of Super-Heroes Vol 5 #39– Does this one already have a fill-in artist? C’mon Shooter, it’s time to do something epic here. This title needs it.
- Elephantmen War Toys #2– An European-like story written by a Brit published by an American company out of San Francisco. Elephantman is truly a multi-cultural book.
- Young Avengers Presents #2– I forgot that I was getting this because I used to subscribe to Young Avengers. The first issue wasn’t that good. I’ll flip through this one. I don’t think these characters are strong enough to support solo stories yet. I would have rather seen more team stories before this.
- Criminal 2 #1– ‘Bout time. Lawless was a fantastic story and we’ve been waiting for the follow-up.
- Kick-Ass #1– I want to flip through this but I’m leaning toward waiting for the collection that’ll be out by the summer. From the brief summaries I’ve heard so far, it sounds like the flip side of Wanted.
- Rasl #1– I’ve been digging rereading Bone but am still luke-warm toward Shazam Monster Society of Evil. I’m guardedly optimistic about this new series from Jeff Smith.
- Nexus #100 Space Opera Act 2 Of 4– Are you sure? I’ve seen the painted pages and they’re wonderful. But I don’t remember the main story being issue 100-worthy. It’s good, just not the celebration I would have hoped for.
- Mouse Guard Winter 1152 #3– I honestly don’t remember anything that’s happened in this series so far. Maybe I should just wait on this one as well but I’d rather support titles like this than Kick-Ass.
