The wekly comic & DVD shopping list

By Scott Cederlund in Previews, comics

Green Lantern Corps Vol 2 #19 (Sinestro Corps War Epilogue)
Green Lantern Vol 4 #25 Regular Ivan Reis Cover (Sinestro Corps War Part 11)
Tales Of The Sinestro Corps Presents Ion #1 (Sinestro Corps War Tie-In)
I was going to comment on the number of Countdown books this week before I realized that there are 3 Sinestro Corps War books out. The War comes to some kind of conclusion this week with three books as Geoff John, Ivan Reiss and Ethan VanSciver present a giant-sized costume. These crossover started out strong so let’s hope that it doesn’t falter like World War Hulk

Suicide Squad Raise The Flag #4
I’m hoping that now that Ostrander has moved beyond the Skataris story that the rest of this mini gets exciting.

New Avengers #37
I have no idea what’s going on in this title. Something with the Skrulls, the Hood and Luke Cage wondering if Jessica Jones is a skrull.

Ultimates 2 HC
Unless something changes, this may be the last book that Bryan Hitch draws that I’ll buy. I’ve always liked his work, even when he was just an Alan Davis clone, but over the years on The Ultimates, his artwork became too realistic, too busy and not that much fun to look at. It’s excessive and is unexpressive (check out that ugly FF cover in a few months.) His artwork was much less intense on Authority but Ultimates pushed it into some weird photographic-like area. I’m not excited about the Millar/Hitch FF in any way, shape or form baut I may come back if the dreamt-about Millar/Hitch Superman ever happens.

Criminal Vol 2 Lawless TPB
I need to read this series again. I remember not being horribly impressed by the first 4 issues but really loved the ending of Brubaker & Phillips second Criminal story.

Elephantmen War Toys #1
The world that Richard Starkings, Ladronn & Moritat have built here has been fantastic. This mini goes into the early days of the Elephantmen, when they were nothing more than war weapons.

Nexus Origin One Shot
Of course I have this from when it was first released back in the 90s but I want to see if it has any goodies that will make me want to purchase it for a second time.

Acme Novelty Datebook Vol 2 HC
I love sketchbooks. I love Chris Ware’s artwork. The only thing that I don’t like is the price-point: $30. Ouch.

Queen & Country Vol 8 Operation Red Panda HC
Even though it’s been sporadically released since it first came out, I miss this series focusing on Tara Chase, British secret agent. Strip away all of the gadgets and romance in James Bond and you’re left with people whose job is intelligence and killing. That’s what Queen & Country is.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix Special Edition DVD
This may be my favorite of the Harry Potter movies. I think they did a great job adapting the books into a movie– they knew just what to keep and what to jettison from Rowling’s story.

Comics Journal #287
Greg Rucka and Jeffery Brown are interviewed in this issue. The Comics Journal still has the best interviews around.

Other items of interest:
Booster Gold Vol 2 #5 – some fun continuity porn.
DMZ #26 — I keep debating whether to start picking up the single issues of this series because I’m really enjoying the trades.
Showcase Presents Justice League Of America Vol 3 TP — someday
Fallen Angel Vol 2 #22 Regular JK Woodward Cover – wait for the trade
Wormwood One Shot Regular Ben Templesmith Cover — another one?
Pirates Of Coney Island #6 — another wait for the trade
Ultimate Iron Man II #1 Regular Pasqual Ferry Cover– Why can’t Pasqual Ferry be on a book that I actaully want to read?
New X-Men Childhoods End Vol 5 TP — I want to pick this one up sometime. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this story.
Nova Vol 1 Annihilation Conquest TP– waiting for the oversized hardcover
Potters Field #3 — I’ve got a review of this coming Monday or Tuesday
HATE Annual #7 – I miss Buddy Bradley.
Warren Ellis Black Gas HC — Any good?
Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Vol 5 TP — I’ve looked but have never been able to find a copy of this manga.
