The weekly comic shopping list

By Scott Cederlund in comics

Last week had some amazing books but this week just looks solid. There’s one or two things that I think will be really good but most everything else looks at least entertaining.

52 Volume 4 TP– I won’t be getting this for another week or so but maybe I’ll finally be able to sit down and reread the whole, crazy trip over Christmas break or something. 52 was a fun, entertaining series that worked much better than it ever should have. In other words, it’s no Countdown.

Action Comics #859– As a long-time Legion fan, I’m excited to see where this story is going. But can we please get someone other than Sibal to ink Gary Frank? I used to really, really like his artwork and now it’s just o.k. The bug-eyed thing really creeps me out.

Brave and the Bold #8– Seeing George Perez draw the original Doom Patrol here is enough for me. I love me some Doom Patrol.

Checkmate #20– One of the most solid and untalked about series, Rucka’s writing here is crisp.

Jack Kirby’s Fourth World Omnibus V3– Now that I’m looking at my orders for this month, how is this not on any list?

Spirit #11– I’d like to see some Ploog artwork but it looks like I’m around for this title for only one more issue. The upcoming creative team really does nothing for me.

Incredible Hulk #111– Another book that’ll probably get dropped soon. I don’t know if I really care where this series is headed after this.

Grendel Behold the Devil #1– It’s Grendel. It’s Matt Wagner. Now I just need the Batman/Grendel trade collection.

Umbrella Academy #3– Great series full of adventure and wonder.

Left On Mission #5– fantastic espionage series. There’s a two page spread in issue #4 that really stood out. I can’t wait to see the end of this series.
