On the last podcast, I talked a bit about the Noisy Awards and the nomination process currently in place. I just did my civic duty and sent in my nominations.
Remember, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Now get out there and vote.
Favorite ongoing title – DC: All Star Superman (easily the DC title that’s best gripped my imagination this year.)
Favorite ongoing title – Marvel: Daredevil (it was a toss up between Brub’s Daredevil and Criminal. I threw my nominating weight behind Daredevil because I haven’t felt quite the emotional connection to Criminal yet.)
Favorite ongoing title– non DC/Marvel: Casanova (this could have gone to Elephantmen as well. It was a hard choice but the madness of Casanova beat out the noirness of Elephantmen. But now I’m thinking I should have nominated Elephantmen.)
Favorite Publisher– Oni Press (they seem to be the publisher that’s taking the most chances right now.)
Favorite Writer– Brian Wood (I just finished the last DMZ trade, Public Works, a couple of days ago and realized that this is probably one of my favorite books right now. Between DMZ and Local, he’s just so amazingly consistent.
Favorite Penciler– Darwyn Cooke (The Spirit is really just a bit of fluff but the artwork is what makes these books really shine. Cooke is one of the most individualistic storytellers right now.
Favorite Inker– N/A (most of the art I really like is done by a single artist. I hate to say that I can’t think of an artist that stands out. And no, you can’t get me to vote for Dexter Vines.)
Favorite Color Artist– Dave Stewart (check out his recent Batman issues. The color really supports the artwork. This was the battle of the daves in my mind: Stewart and McCaig.)
Favorite Letterer– Sean Konot (one of the only deserving ones I could think of that I wasn’t sure would get nominated by anyone else.)
Favorite Editor– N/A (I don’t know who edits my favorite books. I shouldn’t care who edits my comics.)
Favorite One Shot, Special or Annual: The Homeless Channel (see favorite “new” creator)
Favorite Miniseries: 52 (The feat that was 52 deserves to be celebrated. And besides, haven’t you heard, the miniseries is dead.)
Favorite New Creator: Matt Silady (I’ve said a lot about Matt and The Homeless Channel but that’s because it’s that good. Silady’s comic mixes drama, comedy and reality television into a touching, open-ended yet satisfying story. Get it already!!!)
Favorite Title cancelled in 2007: Nextwave (It started with Fin Fang Foom and ended with Devil Dinosaur. In between 12 issues, Aaron Stack made us laugh, cry and feel dirty.)
Favorite Non comic book comic book related project: The Death of Superman feature on the Superman/Doomsday DVD (anything that could get me to want to go out and get the original collections of the death of Superman has be to pretty good, doesn’t it?)
Favorite Cover Artist: Gabriel Ba (have you seen the cover to Casanova: Luxruia? Have you? That should explain everything)
