I didn’t do much blogging today because there wasn’t much going on at Wizard World Chicago. I spend most of the day just wandering around, talking to friends and a few creators I know. I didn’t hit any panels but that isn’t a bad thing because it doesn’t look like there was any news today. The Millar/Hitch announcement will be at a Marvel panel tomorrow and I’ll probably try to go to that. It looks like the big thing out of DC was the announcement of more Countdown book.
At least today felt more relaxed than I remember the con feeling in the past. There wasn’t a packed crowd so it was easy to get around and talk to writers, artists and other fans. But there also isn’t a buzz about anything. The book I looked through and will probably get tomorrow is The Boy Who Made Silence by Josh Hagler. It looks like a nice Ashley Wood/Dave McKean inspired artwork.
So what did I get today?
Autographs:
Matt Wagner on Mage V1 & 2
Ande Parks and Chris Samnee on Capote In Kansas
Matt Silady on The Homeless Channel
Geoff Darrow on Bourbon Thret
Purchases (and I think I can say that they all fall under the rules I set out for myself a couple of days ago):
2001– Marvel Treasury Special by Jack Kirby
2001 #1 by Jack Kirby
The Comics Journal #78 (interview with Archie Goodwin
The Comics Journal #100– (featuring Interviews with 26 top creators and a wonderful Jaime Hernandez cover)
Spider-Man Reign HC (half price)
Little Greyman by Scott Morse (been looking for this one for a while now)
Kamandi #21 (on a whim, it was only $2)
Paul Pope 100% (half price– now I just need to find Heavy Liquid)
Tomorrow, the bag I take gets shrunk down. I have “con” shoulder from the heaviness of the bag I had today but I don’t plan on taking as much stuff with. I may break my “rules” for one or two books that I saw today.
More tomorrow.
