Over on The Engine, Warren Ellis muses on a Diamond Top 100 list stipped of mainstream Marvel and DC, and wonders what kind of glorious world it would be.
90 minutes later, Dennis Culver gives Ellis his dream and produced the Top 100 for June sans Marvel and DC (Vertigo and Icon are still in play though.) For your reading enjoyment, here’s the top 20 books:

Dark Horse and Dynamite Entertainment dominate with Image and IDW showing up a couple of times and only two DC book (Fables & Ex Machina) making an appearance. Marvel doesn’t show up until #22 with Eisner award winning Criminal. But June was the month leading into The Transformers movie and that’s everything IDW has on the list.
It looks like Dynamite made the right choice picking up Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys, at #3 and the first non-licensed book on the list. Fourteen books on this list are licensed properties. Does that mean that these things are actually bringing in readers from their established fanbase? One way or another, they have a following.
Looking at the creator owned stuff, that’s a nice list of creators: Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Mike Mignola, Brian K Vaughan and Bill Willingham. They’re all popular creators who have become “creative celebrities” in the small world of comics.
