Last week was huge and expensive. This week isn’t huge but potentially slightly expensive.
Stuff I’ll buy:
Countdown #39– The good will generated by #41 disappeared in #40. I haven’t ordered it beyond August so it’s got a few more issues to try and get me on board for the long haul.
Faker #2– I liked #1 a lot more than I think I should. This is another make or break issue for me. I liked Jock’s artwork and it’s one of the few things of Mike Carey’s that’s intrigued me beyond a one-issue tryout.
Green Lantern Wanted Hal Jordan HC-- This contains two stories, both of which are a bit of a letdown from the post OYL stories that Johns wrote.
Justice Society of America #8– I’m probably in the minority here but I don’t know if I’ve enjoyed this book as much since the relaunch but having a crossover after only 4 or 5 issues didn’t help. At this point, I’m giving the title until the first year wraps up but may end up dropping it and getting the trades.
Elephantmen V1 Wounded Animals HC– over on his boards, Richard Starkings has posted pictures of this along with the Godland HC (also due this week,) Casanova and the Hip Flask HC and it looks great. These books have a nice, simple design to them.
New Avengers Illuminati #4– It lost me when it tried to retcon Secret Wars II so let’s see if it gets back on track this issue.
World War Hulk #3– Hulk smash. Honestly, I can’t figure out what this series is going to do for 3 more issues other than putting the Earth heroes in a gladiator-style environment similar to Planet Hulk. And how can they end this? There’s no way to return the Hulk to earth. Does he become a cosmic character for a while, patrolling the spaceways?
Naoki Urasawa’s Monster V10– I haven’t even found V9 yet or read V8.
Stuff that would look interesting if I had more money:
Jonah Hex #22-- Did I hear that Jordi Bernet is doing the artwork on this title again?
Metal Men V3 #1– The artwork looks fun. May end up getting this someday in trade.
Godland Celestial Edition HC– If I hadn’t just gotten the third volume in trade last week, I’d probably get this one. It’s kind of a mad and crazy series.
Thunderbolts Presents Zemo Born Better TP– I enjoyed the Nicieza/Grummet run on Thunderbolts so I’ll get this collection eventually.
Oldboy V7– “Eisner award winning.” I haven’t gotten anything beyond the 2nd volume and can’t find the 3rd at all. Maybe someday.
Berlin #13– Maybe the second collected volume will be out this year or next.
